Orkut, which is now owned by Google, remains the dominant social network in India despite the entry of at least a dozen new home-grown players in this space. The overall picture, however, is far from clear. Web traffic data suggests that Facebook and MySpace have made inroads into the Indian market, with traffic to local players still relatively low and volatile. User data provided by the newer indigenous social networks, however, claims they are growing very fast, and that Facebook and MySpace are both struggling in the Indian market.
