Ning, the social networks player has quietly raised another $60m from private institutions, led by Allen & Company, to fund its expansion plans. The investment values Ning at around $500m. Ning aims to compete with the large social sites such as MySpace and Facebook by appealing to users who want to create networks around specific interests or have limited technical skills.
